Comments due by Tuesday at Midnight (No exceptions!)

For your homework tonight you need to watch a portion of the Presidential Debate. You do not have to watch all of it. You just need to watch enough in order to make a valid and coherent post on our class blog ( shanehallfpd.blogspot.com ).
Your post should be on your thoughts on what the two candidates had to say on Foreign Policy. Please do not comment on what they are wearing, only on what they have to say.

When you feel you have watched enough to make a comment please go to our class blog at ( shanehallfpd.blogspot.com ) and look for my post on the debate. Click the comment button at the bottom of my post and leave your comment. After you have posted your comment you need to reply to one of your classmate’s post by clicking on reply under their comment.

You must comment and reply in order to get credit for this homework assignment.
You must sign both your comment and reply with your name (first & last) as well as what class you are in, ie: (Econ 3 or Econ 6).

Enjoy!

While Mitt Romney has the advantage because he can say what he will do addressing foreign policy, Obama has already been in office 4 years. Obama said we need to be a strong example and leader in places like Lybia and Afganhinstan but yet we apologize for the video that got four of our representatives killed. Thats not being a strong example, its being weak. The last thing we need right now is a weak President and i believe Obama is coming off weak in this debate, because his past actions speak louder than his words.

    1. I agree with you Sierra. I think the past four years has shown weakness in the leadership with our country and we need a leader that will step up and lead our country to prosperity.

    2. I agree with Sierra, a president who Deals poorly with foriegn policy like Obama will ruin our country. We need to spend what ever is necessary to protect our country and protecting freedom all around the world.

    3. I agree with you Sierra. Obama has not lived up to the promises he made when he was elected four years ago, and has not proven to be a fit leader for this country.

  2. Obama is more about attacking Mitt Romney, and Mitt Romney is more about laying out the facts

Obama accused Romney of lying about keeping troops in Iraq and Mitt Romney totally told Obama off

    1. I don't think he necessarily "told him off", but he did disprove what Obama said. Obama does seem to attack Romeny and not lay out facts himself. Romney only lays out the facts that help him though.

    2. Obama's attacks seemed to be somewhat disrespectful at times and i thought Romney did I good job of acting presdential during this debate.

  4. Obama said that he is going to rebuild the economy, and that he's already been successful in doing this for his time in office but Romney proved that this isn't the case. He argued reminding him that he promised to lower the unemployment rate to a certain number, but he wasn't able to achieve this at all and in fact, was way off the mark. Also, I think Romney made a great point when talking about all of the economic possibilities that Latin American provides. I didn't realize that its economy is almost as big as China.

  5. I like how Romney is wanting to make sure our military has everything it needs. Our navy and airforce are smaller than ever, yet military spending is being threatened and our Navy is not being given enough ships. I think Romney is right in providing the military everything that it needs to support and defend our country. The money that goes to our military should not be cut, but istead increased to provide means for the men and women who fight for our lives.

I absolutely agree, Lauren. We have hardworking men and women serving in the army trying to keep us safe. And it seems counterproductive to cut the military budget when one of the most important things should be Americans' safety. We can lessen the budget for less important things instead of cutting the military budget, which could be essential to our lives. But I think that there is a certain amount that is too much, so while I think that the budget for the military should not be cut, I don't think that it should be expanded to the extent of being excessive, when some of that money could go to something else, such as education. But overall, I agee.

    3. Just because our military is getting smaller doesnt not mean that it is not going to be as good as before. With the new advancements in warfare such as UAV's and other tactical equipment that is used when fighing the War on Terror it actually creates less positions in the military yet the cost of these weapons and the maintaince of them are more expensive as compared to the equipment used by the people.

I like that both Mitt and Barack believe that the government in Libya needs to be strengthened (towards the good) and that the lack of equality is a very big problem there that needs to be fixed. I don't think we can create their government and try to get them to be just like us, even if we think our government is the best. If we don't respect their religions and wishes, then they might grow to resent us, thus turning against us. But Mitt has the right idea to influence them greatly in hopes of creating a better way of living for Libyans. I like how he wants America to help, but to also keep it safe. He sees us as a country that is extraordinary and that can and should help other countries. Although, I don't agree with Mitt on giving Syrians weapons with the hope that those weapons won't fall into the wrong hands. I think that is really naive. How are we going to regulate that without having troops there (since he doesn't want to send any there)? But I definitely think we should do something to help the Syrians, but giving them weapons may not be the best policy. Mitt wants to keep Americans safe and is very reluctant on sending troops there, but with his idea of giving weapons that could very well be used against us seems a little askew considering he wants to keep us safe. Although, I definitely respect his hesitance on sending troops in.

    1. I totally agree with you about giving Syrians weapons. That may be a move Romney wants to rethink because even though it may seem like a good idea, I think there are more cons than pros when dealing with weapon giving.

You did little more than continue what Bush was doing and what others had been working for since the beginning of the Iraq war. Thank you for that. Also, you're an interrupting failure and Im glad Romney stopped you from interrupting him.

  13. I found it interesting that although they both have substantial differences, it seemed as if they would do almost the same things foreign policy wise. Romney said he would do what Obama did but stricter and better. I don't see how you can do the same thing better, but what do I know? Also, I didn't like how the conversation got turned to different subjects like education and domestic policy. I also didn't like all the interruptions by Obama. It was unprofessional and never should have happened.

  14. I do not agree with Obama taking money from wealthier people. I like how Romney wants to put healthcare with the states. Also, he wants to cut military spending. Obama has not given any specific plan or how he is gonna take charge to help our country. Romney talked about his plan in detailed steps on how he was gonna take charge and help the United States get back on track.

  15. Even though I hate Romney I liked his idea of dealing with China. Using higher tariffs would cause American people to want to consume products that were made here in the USA. His example of the piston was was made in china but was a counterfit was a good example of just some of the few ways China is taking advantage of the United States and but has to be stopped in order for Romneys plan to work. Obama did not address the question with enough reasoning and backing to support his idea of dealing with China.

  16. I agree on how Romney says the military and navy need more money. I think it is essential as a country that we provide for those who protect us the most instead of taking away their funds. However, I feel that Obama is at a slight disadvantage in this debate because he has already been in office for four years and we can see how his dealings with foreign policies came out, but Romney has the advantage of have a "clean slate" when it comes to foreign policy. Therefore, I believe that Romney did slightly better in this debate than Obama when dealing with foreign policy.

  17. I agree with Romney that our military does not need to be involved in Syria. Rather, we should be active in trying to help replace Assad and have in place a new government, one that is not harmful to the country, and provide the Syrians weapons with which to defend themselves.

  22. The majority of the debate last night strayed away from foreign policy and landed in the subject of our economy. However,I think Romney displayed respectful advances with expressing his ideas of nuclear weapons in Iran. I agree that going to war with Iran should be a last result for our country. Obama had his interruptions but his arguments were not believable with his past history, its hard to cover up something that is obvious.

  23. Last night's debate can be summarized as boring. This is because this election is primarily over the economyh and not foreign policy. I am not saying foreign policy doesn't matter, but it's not the most important topic for this election. I think it can be agreed that both candidates were both unclear and tended to stray away from the topic. However Mitt Romney appeared to be a little more concise while Obama continued in his blame game and getting around the question. In my opinion this debate will have little influence over undecided voters.

    1. I am in total agreement with you Conner. It was a debate that focused little on the major issues in Foreign Policy but rather on small issues. Most of the time the candidates found ways to talk about the economy (which benefited Romeny in my opinion). I would say this debate mattered little when it comes to the undecided voter and only served to helped to solidify the Republican and Democratic bases. 13 days, will we see an October surprise from Team Obama?

  24. I also disagree with the military part. This is because I believe that at any cost America's military should be second to none. You can't put a price on our safety. This is one of our commander and chief's biggest priorities and it should be dealt with accordingly.

  26. I think that Romney is right in the area of more military funding. As a large and powerful country we must have a big and taken care of military for conflicts that will occur. I think we need to be able to fight to wars at one time like we always have instead of Obama's plan where we can only fight one at a time. Oh ya... Obama is cocky and arrogant and thinks that he already has the election wrapped up, but that is not the case at all I really hope Romney wins. Overall this debate was relatively unimportant.

    1. I agree with you, Brooks, Obama's cocky attitude and "overly concerned" facial expressions that were very evident throughout the debate were insulting. That is no way to gain support from anyone. Not only is he proving to be rude, but he is also quite the idiot if he thinks we can take wars "one at a time". It doesn't work that way in the real world, Mr. President.

  27. Monday night's debate, although not essential, it was necessary. America needed to see how Gov. Romney stood when it came down to the military, because if elected, he will be in control of it. Yes, I know, this is election is more focused around the economic crisis that the USA is facing, but A LOT of our economy deals with our foreign relations. Heck, that's why we're so in debt is due to spending. (Most of which has been to foreign sources). Aside from the economy though, it is important to have debates like this to see where our future leaders stand with foreign relations. With the world as it is, I agree with Romney on giving more support to the military so that we can defend ourselves against any attack. Obama is either underestimating us or just being stupid if he plans to take attacks, "one at a time". Excuse me, Mr. President, but the terrorist and foreign nations that are angry with us aren't going to wait until we are ready to fight them. That's why our military needs to be top notch, and those that we put into office should be able to fully deal with foreign relations well and professionally. So, no, I don't believe this debate was boring, it did exactly what it was intended to do- to inform us.

  28. The final presidental debate was the least intresting to watch in my opinion. The undecided voter is more concerned with the economy in this election then on foriegn policy. Right now it is more important to fix things here at home.
